OUR HISTORY

1000+ Club was founded in 1978 in association with The American Cancer Society. In 2009, 1000+ Club to Benefit Cancer, Inc. (a/k/a 1000+ Club) was created as a 501© 3 to raise funds focusing specifically on cancer education and patient services in Broward County. Money is raised through the diligent efforts of members, sponsors and volunteers through membership and events. Since 2011, 1000+ Club, the organization’s Charitable Giving Committee, has awarded over $500,000 in annual grants to local 501©3 cancer organizations in Broward County. These grants have made a difference in hundreds of cancer patients and their families.

2017 was an exciting year of fundraising for 1000+ Club to Benefit Cancer, Inc. (1000+ Club) as we continued to raise money to support cancer related nonprofits in Broward County through grants.  The year started with our “Give Cancer the Boot” Spring Luncheon held in April at the top of Pier 66.  November was a busy fundraising month as 1000+ Club hosted “Uncork and Unwind” at MODERN Sixties Wine Lounge and the “4th Annual Fashion*Food*Fun” at the Colonnade of Sawgrass. In December, Lorraine Thomas hosted the annual Holiday Membership Luncheon at her beautiful home where six 2017 grant recipients were announced by Merrill Thomas, V.P. of Charitable Giving totaling over $63,000 – highlighting what a difference 1000+ Club makes to children and families touched by cancer.  Eight new members were introduced by Anne Ahrens, V.P. of Membership, bringing membership to over 200.  Kathleen Thomsen, President, announced a new fundraiser, Blue Jeans and Bling,” will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2018.   This casual, fun evening will include live music by Big City Dogs, barbeque and much more. Mark your calendars to join us.   None of this is possible without the dynamic Board of Directors and dedicated members and volunteers.  Thank You!!!
